We have all heard and read a lot about the proposed plan and Obama clearly laid out training/retraining as a platform during his campaign. But what do think is coming in 2009 in the area of training?

There are so many unemployed skills on the street right now, we need to find a way to better document these, get them retraining and get them connected with employers that are hiring or will be soon. What’s the best way of documenting?
I think that the best way to document a skill set is to have an extensive portfolio. Having a documented collection of your specialties can definitely come in handy on interviews. I have personally used a portfolio when interviewing for professional positions and it was very well received.
Many people choose to place their portfolios on a personal Web site, which is an excellent idea. Keeping a portfolio on a digital medium such as a CD or thumb drive is additionally smart, but keep in mind that you need to save your files in a universal format so that they can be viewed easily.
It is wise to keep an archive of your accomplishments in one place so that it can be converted into a portfolio easily for future use. I personally keep a general archive of my work, as well as a “best of” for each year. I enjoy sharing my work with friends and family, so I appreciate that a portfolio can be utilized outside of a business environment too.
Good stuff, Emmy!! Happy New Year!
